This small chain of Portland, OR area cafés started in 2009 with this Pearl District location. (Not to be confused with the Barista Coffee Company chain in India that was purchased by Lavazza.)
Owner Billy Wilson is a three-time Northwest Barista Champion (since retired), a follower of Duane Sorenson, and a former barista at Portland's Albina Press. (Former Barista barista, Marty Lopes, has since founded Roseline Coffee Roasters.)
Despite his honored barista status and tattooed looks, Wilson is one of those rare Portland baristas who cares a lot about customer experience - and it shows in his shops. They are uniquely and elegantly designed, elevating the coffee drinking environment to more of a luxury. Barista is also one of the first coffeehouses in Portland to go the multi-roaster route.
