Popular downtown Monterey coffee house with several indoor tables and a few outdoors on Alvarado St. Customers often saddle up with their Apple laptops and plug them into the ceiling outlets hanging above. Often busy, particulary with the high school and college-age set. Plumes is one of the coffee houses that introduced the individual pour drip coffee setup to the area that is now somewhat popular, but everything here seems to come in a single, gargantuan size. Using a two-group La Pavoni, they pour espresso with a dark brown, rich crema of modest thickness and a strong herbal/pungent flavor.
