In the Big Sur Lodge of Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park, this espresso kiosk resides between the gift shop and the restaurant - near the bathrooms. They serve espresso from a single-group chrome CMA machine, and they also sell ice cream and even a Big Sur Lodge blend of coffee beans roasted by the Carmel Valley Coffee Roasting Company. Things can be slow and rustic, so you may have to ring the bell for service and swat off a few flies in the lobby. They pour an espresso with almost no crema and a pungent, clove-like flavor. Surprisingly, it has a decent body and brightness. It's hard to ask much else of an espresso in the wilds.
