Review
Attached to the upscale Jardine Restaurant next-door, this bakery kiosk caters to local downtown business folk in business attire. The bakery is continuously making amazing croissants and other baked goods (they offer "off the shelf" versus "out of the oven" versions, depending on how long you wish to wait). They have a few stand-up café tables along the front sidewalk plus four white park benches for seating along Bloem St. (The bakery is technically on Bloem St.) Using a powder blue, two-group WEGA machine with a Jardine-logo crossaint emblazoned on the side, they carefully pull shots of espresso for R10. Double shots, what they may jokingly call "a double poison," go for R14.5. It is generally served a little high in the cup with a thin layer of slightly darker brown crema. The body is a bit thin, and it has a flavor of spices and a little pepper. Not the best use of Deluxe Coffeeworks beans, but the baked goods are good enough to forgive a little. They make cappuccino with rather stiff milk foam, but the frothing is of generally solid quality.
