This quality bakery in the quaint town of Lajes do Pico is located on its small main drag. It's a typical Portuguese combination of pastelaria and café, offering daily lunch specials in addition to baked goods. Besides outstanding pastries, there are a handful of indoor, four-person tables. Using a two-group machine of unknown origin (looks like a Rezzera?) behind the counter, they pull shots of Sical coffee with an even, relatively thick (for the Azores islands) medium brown crema. Flavorwise, it is a slightly smoky spice with a touch of pepper in a good, fresher balance. Served in Sical-branded BonVida cups. ?0.50.
