At the remote east end of São Jorge island, this restaurant/café - named "The Whaler" in Portuguese - caters to the handful of locals and few tourists who ever venture out this far. They have several simple indoor dining tables (with paper tablecloths) and a two-group La Spaziale in the separate bar room in front. They pull shots with a healthy layer of darker brown crema. It has a deeper, dark flavor influenced by what seems like an excessively high brewing temperature. So the flavor is primarily of pepper and burnt wood. Served slightly high in Torrié-logo cups. ?0.50.
