Review
This restaurant oddity is a bit upscale for what you might expect for the Lower Haight. It's rather loungy, with chain mail curtains, serpentine cabling for hanging light fixtures, and a rather rich décor misplaced for the neighborhood. And it is dark. There are two levels of dining. And while the staff are almost as good as the food, they have some odd quirks - often staring off into space or exhibiting some odd twitches. They pull espresso shots from a two-group Elektra at the bar. The resulting shot has a very thin medium brown crema and a generous, though not outrageous, pour size. Despite this, the cup is surprisingly not that diluted. It has more herbal elements than a typical Illy flavor - and less pepper and wood as well. Served in Illy-logo IPA cups with a puzzling lemon rind on the side. Still, it is outrageously overpriced at $3. But finish it with a $20 Marolo grappa and it won't seem so bad.
