Joe runs this eponymous sidewalk espresso stand that is little more than a sign, a night stand, and a Verismo machine on an extension cord. Beneath the Sherman Clay & Co. sign, he uses Peerless beans and a super-automatic to make what should be a lame cup. Yet it surprisingly beats its pedigree peers. Good aroma with a decent layer of light brown crema - an unusual thickness for a Verismo. Woody, herbal flavor that's also unlike the bland drip coffee flavor of most Peerless cups. [CLOSED as of 6/30/04.]
