Review
Located in the bowels of the Westfield Centre basement food court, located near the BART/Muni entrance, this Peet's looks like a byproduct of overly aggressive Peet's expansion on the surface. The espresso here started out surprisingly decent, but with time the quality declined: larger (and less flavorful) shots, a less textured and healthy-looking crema, spottier milk frothing. Using a two-group La Marzocco machine (despite the lines here, they lacked the volume to support their original two machines), they pull espresso shots with a plain, medium brown crema of light thickness, and a medium-bodied pungent taste that's bordering tobacco-like smokiness. Served in a paper cup, this was once good for Peet's but has since become a clear laggard in the chain - fit for tourists more than locals.
