Public Domain may be best known as a downtown Portland coffee house, but its coffee story goes back as far as 1912. Their coffee label is roasted by Portland-based Coffee Bean International, which itself is a 1972 specialty coffee offshoot from the broader Farmer Brothers (founded in 1912).
In addition to Public Domain, Coffee Bean International also supports the labels Panache, Café Tierra, and Un Momento.
Public Domain was part of Coffee Bean International's vision to create a retail outlet and roasting arm to showcase some of their specialty coffees. They launched Public Domain in 2010, and they emphasize seasonal bean stocks for their few blends, single origins, and even the occasional Cup of Excellence coffee.
