Chicago native Andrea Spella started Spella Caffè as an espresso cart in one of Portland's many food cart ghettos. He took to roasting his own coffee once a week at his outer SE Portland roaster, and he continues this tradition every Friday.
In 2010 his cart graduated to a tiny downtown location, and his roasting has continued. He tends to roast between dark and lighter roasting styles, and he does so in under 11-lb batches.
The Signature Espresso blend comes from a direct trade Minas Gerais, Brazil base. He also makes an alternate Rossalina blend (named after his roaster) and a few single origins from locales as varied as an Indian Karnataka peaberry to Ethiopians and a Guatemalan. All at very reasonable prices.
