They roast daily and run a few highly regarded cafés in Portland. At least to start (it has since spread to New York and around the world.) Owner Duane Sorenson has Bay Area influence with Ritual Coffee Roasters and, initially, a partnership in Four Barrel Coffee in SF. After a number started roasting their own or replacing Stumptown with other SF roasters from 2008-2012, by 2013 a new wave of coffee shops is once again offering Stumptown in the SF area.
Stumptown's flagship Hairbender blend was the original "brightness bomb" we often wrote about for overly bright, acidic flavor profiles in espresso blends. Oddly, as a CoffeeRatings.com reader pointed out in 2013, Hairbender seems to have backed off from that reputation for several years now.
And although Stumptown cafés can be a touch underwhelming, their Guatemala Finca El Injerto - La Cima was arguably the best coffee we had in 2012.
