Founded on the Seattle waterfront in the 1970s, this café established its current name expanded extensively in the 1990s (in both cafés and roastery distribution), buying up competitor chains and attempting to keep pace (failingly) with cross-town rival, Starbucks. Ultimately acquired by Starbucks in 2003. They still have many locations in the U.S. and Canada, however.
